So I am watching Fox News this morning and sipping my coffee and this news report comes on about a 4-year-old Pre-Kindergarten Student that has been kicked out of his classroom due to long hair. Now the school has a dress code policy which has certain guidelines about hair length and style. Obviously his does not meet the guidelines. So for that this child has been pulled from his classroom and must spend his day in the library away from the other students. He is more than welcome to go back and join his class if his mother was to have his hair trimmed. So now I watch the mother get interviewed and state she will not cut his hair, but wants him to have an education. She says he likes his long hair and so does the family.
Now I sat there and thought about this a bit. First it started with – It is not right to be told what style hair you are or not allowed to have. So what if he has longhair. How can then do this to the poor child.
Then I thought – Well they do have a Dress Code that had been read and signed upon registering your child to the school. I know if I sent my kids to school in their underwear that would be wrong. Or of I sent my kids to school with teased out hair sprayed Orange – they would probably get sent home. I don’t do those things because I know it is not allowed.
What gets me is this – The parents seem more concerned about the kids hair then him being in his classroom. He is only 4 years old and I am sure not all about his hair. It only requires a trim, but yet they would rather him sit in the library all day – not truly understanding what is going on. What will that do to him? How do they think that makes him feel – he is too young to understand the whole picture.
I understand there point and I would be upset by it as well, but the school has rules and they are what they are. I do not think the kid looks bad with his hair the way it is, but it is school policy. I would really be thinking about my child and how this is making him feel being ostracized and not about myself at this point.
My sister knew how bad I wanted to see this movie so she pre-purchased tickets for us as an early Birthday present for me a couple weeks ago. I could not wait to see it and today I did – it was well worth the wait. I would have gone with my husband too, but I knew he would make fun of me when I cried so he stayed home. Before the movie I packed my pockets with tissues so I was prepared. I must say I did need those tissues, but not until the end of the movie when it was over.
I cried for the loss of such an amazing talent and also for all the people who worked so hard practicing for this upcoming comeback tour. To think all those months of practicing and putting it together came to such a horrible end. Dreams that came true for them as they were picked to be part of this tour and then ended before it even began – my heart went out to them BIG Time. That must have been so hard on them to not only lose their dream of being on stage in front of an audience, but to have lost the man who was making it happen – their idol – Michael Jackson.
The movie was well made and really showed us just how involved Michael Jackson was in every aspect of his comeback tour. It also gave us a taste of what could have been – and it would have been one of the best concerts to ever be. Things were being done that had never been done before and it is very sad that we will not get to see it all live the way it should have been seen. Michael was full of energy, excited and really looked the best he had in a very long time. He looked happy doing what he loved to do – it was nice to see. There was laughter, jokes and funny moments that really showed the side we rarely ever got to experience.
I really think that this movie is not it – we saw many glimpses into the songs and dances that would have been performed, but never the entire picture. I am hoping that they have footage of a complete run through dress rehearsal that will follow this movie for us to see it all.I have a good feeling they do – I am hopeful.
If you have the opportunity to see this movie then do it. It is great even for those who may not be huge fans, because once you see this there is no doubt you will turned into one.Again my heart not only goes out to Michael Jackson’s Family for their loss, but also to the loss felt by all the talent involved in this tour from the dancers, back up singers, production team and everyone involved.I am happy I was able to see this movie and I myself will also always wonder like everyone else what could have been. I do know Michael Jackson will live on and “This is it” is not it and will wait for what is to come next.
I have to get this out so I figured I would do it here on my blog. Is it me or does anyone else see Trick or Treating on many nights besides Halloween is just wrong? Some think that Trick or Treating is just wrong to begin with and that it is just begging for candy. I do not think that – it is just a fun tradition for the kids and they enjoy parading in their costumes door to door. BUT when did it get decided that Trick or Treat night should be on more than one night and not even on Halloween in some neighborhoods? That is what I think is so wrong and greedy.
I grew up in NY and as a child we Trick or Treated on Halloween only – October 31st no matter what day of the week it was. If it was a school day we ran home changed into our costumes and off we went. There were no times set or special tricks of lights being on or off – we just went door to door. If someone answered it was a Bonus. There were no crazy rules involved – it was just fun.
Then once I had my own children and moved to a new state – now in PA things changed so much from those times. I live in a rural area and where my house is kids do not Trick or Treat because the houses are just too far apart so we travel to my in laws neighborhood so the kids can Trick or Treat with their cousins, but I can remember my sister in law telling me I can choose what day I could bring the kids I was so taken back. She told me they do Trick or Treat Night two nights and for the life of me I can not figure out why to this day. I was like so you mean parents have to buy all that candy to give out twice? Yup that is true, but if you choose not to participate you just shut off your porch light – WHAT?
To me this is just wrong wrong wrong!!! Halloween is on October 31st and that is it – not the entire week. Kids do not need all that candy anyway. Why did this happen? What made this change occur?
In addition to that my kid’s elementary school does not even allow the kids to dress in their costumes or have a parade like I had when I was a child. I remember that being something I looked forward to every year as well. Going to school changing into my costume and parading around for all my school mates to see and having my parents come and watch. BUT nope not here and why? I heard something about religious views being an issue. WHAT?Give me a break – if that is an issue then keep your kids home that day, but do not ruin it for every one else. The kicker here though – once the kids get into Middle School then can go dressed. Is it me or is something wrong here?Do religious views change once your in Middle School? When has Halloween been a religious holiday anyway?
This is one of those things that gets me worked up every year Halloween comes around. I just got fired up last night when my son’s friends father asked if we would come to his neighborhood this year to take the kids Trick or Treating on Thursday night. Uh Halloween is on Saturday this year!!! See my point. And now I have my own kids saying – we can go there on Thursday, Our town on Friday and to our cousins on Saturday – I don’t think so!!!
I would love to hear what you think – tell me by leaving a comment.
If you watched the Video Music Awards the other night you will know it was dedicated to the late Michael Jackson with an incredible opening number featuring dancers and his sister Janet. I also cannot forget the great speech give by the one and only Madonna. I think they did a terrific job and I have saved it on my DVR. You would have also seen the trailer to the upcoming movie; Micheal Jackson’s This is It which will be in theaters October 28th for only 2 weeks. This movie compiles all of Michael Jackson’s last days rehearsing his big come back tour. I think this will no doubt be a must see and very well done to honor the King of Pop, but why is it out for only 2 weeks? What will come of the movie after that? I think there is more in the works and this really can’t be “It”.
I have also heard there are songs Michael Jackson made that have yet to be released – I have a feeling those will be coming our way in the near future as well. Hmmmmm
It is still so sad that he is gone before his time and that he had so much left to give us all with his music and talent. As the investigation into his death continues and while we wait for justice to be served will will be given a taste of what could have been.
I have to say that when I heard the news that Ellen DeGeneres was taking over Paula Abdul’s seat on American Idol Season 9 I was very excited. I am personally a big fan of Ellen’s and have been for so many years. There are lot of people who are not as excited wondering what will she bring to the show being she does not have a music industry background. There are a lot of good points being made from both sides. I just think she will give the show a fresh feel, bring some humor and a well needed change. I am was not crazy about Kara DioGuardi being brought on last year and I am not a huge fan of hers. For some reason she annoys me – I think it is her mannerisms. I thought having her and Paula was overkill and not needed.
So will having Ellen be overkill as well? Nah. I think she will bring the perspective of the everyday person who buys the music. She will be our voices and look at judging as we would if we were in that seat. Even though she does not have a music industry background per say – she knows a lot about it. I also think it is great PR for the show – I think she will bring in a new audience and a lot of her followers that maybe did not follow American Idol before.
Well I guess this will be a wait and see kinda thing for those who are unsure. The new season will air January 2010 and I think there will be a lot of people tuning in to see how this will all turn out. I will tune in because I never miss American Idol and I am excited to see Ellen and how she will handle Simon. My prediction – This year is going to be one of the best yet.
Stop by my Squidoo page – American Idol Season9 and take a poll about what you think of Ellen as the new judge. So goodbye Paula you will be missed – but something tells me she will appear in some way on the show as well.
So I have also been busy building up my Hubpages as well and I have added four more Hubpages in the past couple weeks. So now I am at a total of 21 and hope to double by the end of the year. My goal is to be at 40. I like to write about a variety of things there – not just one niche at this time. I am just having fun writing about the things that interest me and making some money along the way never hurts. So here is what I have been up to:
Elmo Says Wash your Hands – I decided to write about the new Ad campaign going on with Elmo from Sesame Street. For one I am a Elmo fan – that is right I admit it. I am a grown up who likes Elmo – Is that wrong? Nah. The second reason is because I really like what he is doing and his new job of helping spread the importance of proper hand washing and how to correctly sneeze and cough without spreading germs to others. I think the more attention to this the better for us all – even if it has to come from Elmo. With the Swine Flu and Flu season looming over us all I think any extra attention to proper hygiene the better. See all the Ads and read more at my Hub.
Hannah Montana Room Decor – My daughter is a big Miley Cyrus Fan and a fan of her show Hannah Montana so I decided to write about all of the great Room Decor available. I am not surprised that Disney has covered every area in that market and you can see it all on my Hub. The thing I like about all the bedding is that it is sophisticated and the colors are really nice. I have also added some great videos showing girls reactions to their newly decorated Hannah Montana Bedrooms – it is priceless.
Toy Hamsters – Zhu Zhu Pets are one of the most sought after toys this 209 Holiday Season and I wanted to share that there are other fun Toy Hamsters on the market in addition to them. So you will see all the fun Toy Hamsters I have found and I believe I have found a very nice selection in addition to the Zhu “>Zhu Zhu Pets. So take a look and if you have a hard time getting the Zhu Zhu Pets know you have other options to make your child smile this Christmas.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs – Being a fan of the original story written by Judi Barret – I decided to write about the upcoming movie. I think this new 3D Animation will be a big hit with kids and adults of all ages. The book was great and I think the movie will also live up to that. I have also added some of the Toys and Games that come along with the movie like all of the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Video Games. So stop by and see what it will be like if Meatballs fell from the sky. I think it would be quite tasty.
JUST ADDED – Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Birthday Party – I came up with some great ideas based on the movie on my Party Blog. It is all about Meatballs and Food and great game ideas. Have you ever seen a Meatball Pinata? Come and see.
I just finished a new Hubpage on LeapFrog Toys and it is a must see for those who want to educate their kids. I really feel these are some of the best learning toys available for our children. I have had them for my own kids and still do because these toys also grow with them. When I say grow with them I mean there are Learning toys from LeapFrog that are available into the teenage years. This line of toys also makes it easier when you are shopping for that perfect gift for a child. It is nice to know you can give something that will help educate and teach and I think that is so important.
On my Hubpage I have listed some of my favorite LeapFrog Toys by age group and some of the newer toys that have become available like LeapFrog My Puppy Pal Scout,LeapFrog Tag Junior Book Pal, LeapFrog Tag Learning System, Zippity Learning System, Clickstart My First Computer, Didj Customer Game System, LeapFrog Crammer and many more.
Educating our children is so important and why not let them have fun while they learn and with these toys it will definitely happen.
